One stage — 16 perforations — Blackbeard completion design — schematic

What the treating chart is telling you

The fracture geometry on the left and the treatment plot on the right are the same stage on the same clock. Every feature in the pressure trace — the breakdown drop, the diverter bump, the rate cut — is an event you can see happening in the rock. Perforation count, diameter, stage interval, rate and sand are rebuilt to Blackbeard's own Crane County pump schedule — the diverter cadence is Machina's, added on top of that same design.

One cycle, read off the pressure

  1. Rate up on clean fluid, pressure climbs to 9,500 psi.
  2. Clusters break down — pressure drops 500–1,000 psi.
  3. Proppant ramps in.
  4. Far-field diverter — pressure steps up 100–200 psi, fracture length stops extending.
  5. Proppant off, rate cut 40–50%.
  6. Near-wellbore diverter pumped at the reduced rate; as clusters close, pressure rebuilds to peak.
  7. Rate back up, the next clusters open, and it repeats.

Three Seismos readings every cycle

One on clean fluid before proppant, one with proppant in the slurry, and one before 80% of the designed loading is placed. Fifteen readings across the stage, tagged A through O, each one a diamond on the perforation-efficiency curve.

Efficiency sags inside each cycle as the open clusters take over, then recovers when the near-wellbore diverter closes them and a fresh set breaks down. That sawtooth is the loop working.

What to watch on the left

Cluster tips grow until the far-field diverter arrests them at the design half-length, then the block fills in rather than extending — the same volume going into width instead of runaway length. Every tip ends on the same line, inside the containment threshold, with room left between the SRV and the offset well.

Tailored to Blackbeard's own design

16 perforations at 0.5″ diameter across a 286-ft interval, pumped at 100 bpm with 100-mesh sand in slickwater to a 9,500 psi max treating pressure — Blackbeard's own Crane County pump schedule, representing the majority (85–90%) of their annual program.

That is the same stage shown here — run today as one continuous pump-down. Machina's contribution is the far-field / near-wellbore diverter sequencing layered on top, not a change to the perforation or fluid design itself.

Schematic illustration, not measured field data. Perforation count, diameter, stage interval, rate and sand type are rebuilt to Blackbeard's own disclosed Crane County pump schedule; no specific well, lease or API identifier is shown. The treatment trace itself is synthetic — built to illustrate the intervention cadence rather than taken from any pumped stage. Perforation-efficiency values are illustrative. Plan view shows SRV length and width; SRV height containment is out of this plane. Intervention triggers, containment thresholds and reading milestones are designed jointly with Blackbeard's engineering team and will vary by well.
